Equine Science Program

If you are interested in studying equine science at the University of Missouri there are a couple of options. Before choosing your path, it would probably be beneficial to sit down with an advisor and visit about your interests and what type of career you think you are interested in.

B.S. in Animal Science with Equine Emphasis:

This program teaches the biology and science behind equine management, as well as provides multiple opportunities to gain valuable hands on training in many different areas by utilizing horses in the MU breeding program.  Coursework includes equine selection, barn management, marketing, behavior & training, breeding management, foaling, equine nutrition, general care and equine diseases.   Equine Courses Offered at MU (pdf)

Minor in Equestrian Science

The Equestrian Science Minor is offered through a partnership with Stephens College.  Coursework includes riding theory and skill development in western, hunt seat, dressage, saddle seat and driving.  Additional classes include equestrian education, stable management, and equine business management.  Because of the number of available horses, enrollment in this program is limited and through application only. Preference is given to MU Animal Science majors, but all majors are encouraged to apply.  EQS Minor Information (pdf)
