MU Equine Boarding Facility

Boarding at the MU Equine Boarding Facility is limited to students, faculty and staff only. This 24 stall facility was built in the 1970’s and is a great place to keep your horses close to campus and make new friends that also have horses in Columbia. We do not have a full time manager, so our facility is a “Self-Care” facility, meaning the boards still have to help take care of their horse.

Board rates include:

  • Use of a 12’ x 12’ stall
  • Use of a turn-out for 12 hrs a day (12’ x 20‘ to 20’x 30’ in diameter)
  • Twice daily feeding of hay (provided)
  • Bedding for stall
  • Use of large outdoor arena (250’ x 150’ w/ lights)
  • Use of small indoor arena when not being used for class purposes or to house Equine Teaching herd (these are given first priority)
  • Boarders are responsible for:
  • Cleaning their own stall once a day
  • Watering their horse
  • Turning them out
  • Feeding and purchasing grain if needed

Boarding Rates as of August 2009 are:

  • Students $150.00
  • Staff / Faculty $170.00
  • If you are providing your own hay will have $45.00 credit per month
  • If you are feeding 3 flakes of hay per feeding we will add $30.00 per month
  • Short term board (<30 days) will be $7.00 per day

Due to safety concerns, we do NOT accept:

  • Stallions or geldings castrated within the past 6 months
  • Horses under the age of 2 years (they usually don’t thrive well in a stall situation)
  • Pregnant mares during last trimester of gestation
  • Horses purchased at a public auction within 30 days
